Established in 1977, Goolsby Mortuary is a family-owned and operated business located in Historic Southeast Atlanta, Georgia. The founder of the mortuary, Thomas D. Goolsby Jr., was an Atlanta native who graduated from Washington High School. His passion for funeral service began after he obtained his funeral service provider license in 1966. Thomas was committed to providing quality professional services at reasonable prices, and his dedication and hard work helped establish Goolsby Mortuary as a trusted name in the funeral service industry.
Lillie Goolsby, Thomas' wife, also played a significant role in the success of the mortuary. She was born and raised in Atlanta and graduated from Clark College. Since the mortuary's inception, Lillie served as the Lady Attendant, providing compassionate care and support to families during their time of need.
Michael B. Goolsby Sr., Thomas' son, later joined the family business and took over its operations. Michael grew up in Atlanta and holds degrees from Clark Atlanta University and Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service. It was at Gupton-Jones where he met his wife, Marie Ann Watson-Goolsby. Together, they have three children - GeKelia, Michael, and Erica.
Marie also joined the Goolsby Mortuary staff and graduated from Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service. Her deep roots in the funeral industry and commitment to continuing education led her to become the State Director of Education and Research for the Georgia Funeral Service Practitioners Association, Inc. Besides her responsibilities in the funeral industry, she is an active member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
The Goolsby family's legacy continues as GeKalia and Erica are currently studying at Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service. They are committed to upholding the family tradition of providing quality funeral services at affordable prices. After 44 years, Goolsby Mortuary remains a trusted name in the funeral service industry, thanks to the dedication and hard work of the Goolsby family.
