The Life and Legacy of Dwayne Marvin Edwards
Prologue Dwayne made his entrance April 7, 1960 as the second of twins born to Donald Maurice Edwards, Sr. and Jacqueline Anita Edwards. He was an avid reader and writer. In fact, writing was his passion. He had a firm appreciation for both fiction and non-fiction. Dwayne enjoyed music and played clarinet in his father’s band at the Clara Luper Freedom Center. In his early days, he had an enthusiasm for dancing. He and his cousin Bahiti danced with Black Moves, Too, a dance company of BLAC (Black Liberated Arts Center.)
Chapter 1 Dwayne gave his life to Christ as a child and grew up in Greater Cleaves Memorial CME Church. He attended Harmony Elementary, Harding Middle School, and graduated from Northeast High School in 1978. Continuing on in his passion for writing, he pursued his college education at the University of Oklahoma and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism.
Chapter 2 Dwayne celebrated seventeen years of sobriety and was a sponsor. He was a long-time employee of General Motors and retired after over twenty years. He then joined Aids Healthcare Foundation of Atlanta (AHF) initially as a volunteer and eventually became a part-time employee. His colleagues considered him to be genuine, selfless, full of joy and excitement with a beautiful spirit and personality. To them, he was the standout of standouts. Most of all, he was a "believer," brother, uncle, friend, survivor, sensitive, caring, and supportive person to his family. He would want you to never ever forget that the unparalleled jewels and treasures of his life were his beloved nieces and nephews.
Final Chapter Dwayne unexpectedly gained his wings on July 7, 2024. He truly fought the good fight and is gone to get his reward. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dwayne leaves to cherish his fond memories, his siblings: Donna Lampley-Carriere and Dale Edwards; his nieces and nephews: Ashleigh Edwards, Paige Edwards, Iris Lampley, Macherie Edwards, and Myan Edwards; his great niece and nephew: Sasha Rose Edwards, Micah Kamara, Josephine Reyes, Saige Edwards, and a host of other relatives and friends.
