… a time to be born…
Ecclesiastes 3:2
Respectful son, loyal brother, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, caring uncle, and a true friend, Leonard Jenkins Warbington was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 14, 1955, and was the third child of five children born to DeWitt and Margaret Warbington. …and I will show you my faith by my works…
James 2:18
At an early age, Leonard gave his life to Christ, and he was baptized by Rev. Dr. Emory Riah Searcy, Sr. at Mount Zion Second Baptist Church, where he was a regular Sunday School, Baptist Training Union, and Vacation Bible School attendee. He served as a junior usher, in the choir ministry, and he was a member of Ward 4. Leonard’s walk with the Lord continued through dedicated and innovative Bible study, and he lived and led his family according to Proverbs 22:6.

Leonard began his career in the United States Air Force, faithfully serving his country for three years. His love for science and mathematics led him to an engineering career for over thirty-five years. He was employed by various companies in Virginia, Oklahoma, and Georgia, including the federal government, Cobb County, and Southern Railway, and he was also a private contractor. Leonard retired from the City of Atlanta in 2023, where he was the Pollution Control Maintenance Manager for the Wastewater Treatment Department.
Leonard shared his passion for words through an Atlanta Public Schools mentorship program, “Everybody Wins! Atlanta,” which helps improve children’s literacy and develop the reading skills of students in elementary school through shared reading. Leonard was paired with students, mentoring them weekly for over five years.
Leonard was a Master Mason of the Free and Accepted Masons, a fraternal organization rooted in moral and intellectual development and promoting brotherhood and philanthropy.
For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near. I have fought a good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me a crown of righteousness…
